Being from a background of printing profession, maintaining deadlines of product launches and conferences for corporates and multinationals day in and day out, made life miserable for Ajit. Mere scaling up the career ladder and compromising the values was certainly not his aspiration. Manisha too with her academic profession was looking out for more meaningful life.

The thought process started with a public program we attended on sustainable lifestyle (निसर्गस्नेही जीवनशैली) by Shri Dilip Kulkarni, an eminent environmentalist. It was a Eureka moment for us! It kicked off a series of visits and discussions with Dilip Dada. He and his better half Poornimatai are ideal example of being minimalist. In them, one can find culmination of words, deeds and action, a rarest of quality in today’s illusionary world. They practice what they preach.

Year 2007 was a turning point for us. A small news from Loksatta, a Marathi newspaper, carried a news about a study tour of Maharashtra. Within no time we contacted the organizers, Annasaheb Bhuskute Vichar Manch from Dombivli. With a few rounds of interview, we secured a place for ourselves in “Aarohan”, a group of 108 strong contingent of students with conviction to explore the world within; as well as outside. Travelling for 15 days across the length and breadth of Maharashtra, from Mumbai to Gadchiroli and Aurangabad to Ratnagiri, made us understand the land, people, culture and of course the ground reality of life outside the “city limits”.

It was a metamorphosis! And no wonder we left the job within a month, ready to dive into the unknown. The following year landed us at Saguna Baug, Neral. A sprawling 55 acre energized land of agriculture. The pioneer and the father of Agriculture Tourism in India, Shri Chandrashekhar Bhadsavle (fondly called as Dada) warmly made us a part of his team. We found ourselves exploring various innovative ideas on field and enriching ourselves at the grassroot level off the field, within the hinterland of adivasis. Keeping our bond firm with Dada and his family we set out to live our dream!

Books were never alien and going close to nature was an instinct. Association with local nature activities at Nashik as well as interaction with children and understanding their world in today’s context through Khel Ghar – (a ground activity conducted for a group of children who are deprived of open spaces living behind closed doors of apartments) – underlined the need to have better communication with the surrounding. The inner calling for both ignited an urge to endeavor and explore an untrodden path for ourselves.

Coming from a traditional family and brought up in an environment where ethics of life was a part of upbringing, the deep-rooted values gave us an impetus to start an activity which could bridge us with the society. This germ gave birth to Carvi Resource Library.
